Just Be Thankful

Hello Smart Girls!

I have a few questions for you. Some of them may be rhetorical.

Did you wake up today?

Do you have a roof over your head?

Are you blessed with luxuries?

Are you blessed with the essentials?

Do you have people that love and support you?

Let me help you a little. You clearly woke up because if you had not then you would not be reading this. Most of you ladies are in college, so you probably have a roof over your heads. A computer is a luxury, so is a tablet and so is your smartphone. Your food, water, shelter, health and freedom are all essentials to us but for some they are blessings. Even if you feel that you do not have people to love and support you, you always have the Smart Girls.

Thanksgiving is coming up. This is the time of the year where everyone discusses what he or she is thankful for. Out of the 365 (366 on Leap Year) days of the year, people are only thankful one day a year? That is really sad if you think about it. A lot of things are wrong in the world, but we need to be thankful for what is right.

I will name a few things I am thankful for and I invite you to ponder on the things in your life that you should or could be thankful for.

I am thankful for my parents.

Moving away from home has really made me appreciate them so much more.

I am thankful for our Troops.

Having a boyfriend in the military has exposed me to a different life as well as a whole lot of other information, which has made me realize the price of freedom.

I am thankful for Smart Girls.

The amount of wholesome information on here is beyond me, as well as the opportunities.

I am thankful for another day.

I have seen a lot of death this year. A lot of unexplained, innocent deaths and everyday that I wake up I am thankful.

There are so many other things to be thankful for. Clean clothes, food, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, our education, good deeds…the list goes on and on.

Think about it.

Just be thankful.

Tiffany Lorente

Hello Lovelies! My name is Tiffany Lorente and I am one of the Living Editors here at Smart Girls Group. I am a Miami native with Cuban parents. I attend Florida International University and aspire to graduate with a Degree in Public Relations to then enter law school. For the past year and a half I have been working with Smart Girls Group and each time I change positions I fall more and more in love with our cause and what we do to inspire young women each day. I am a firm believer that you need to expose yourself to the world and let them know you are capable of many things. You can do great things if you set your mind to it.

  • This post is beautiful! We really do forget just how blessed we are. We take it for granted. And now with Black Friday shopping starting on Thanksgiving, it’s getting worse.

    • Thank you and I agree. There needs to be more value on the family/friend aspect of Thanksgiving rather than the commercial aspect. Shopping is fun, but family needs to come first.
