Hi Smart Girls! Today I am so excited to be sharing with you all an interview I did with the sweetest girl, Kate from A Lonestar State of Southern! A Lonestar State of Southern is one of my favourite fashion blogs to read, and Kate nails, affordable, college-friendly-but-trendy (with a classic southern twist) fashion to the tee! The navy and white combo in the above photo is one of my all-time favourites! I was lucky enough to get to interview Kate and all find out all her best fashion tips and tricks to share with you all here!
Hi Kate! Thankyou so much for talking to me today! You have such great style, where would you say are your favourite places to shop?
One of my favourite feelings is walking out of a store with a few new purchases you didn’t pay an arm and a leg for. Places like Zara, H&M, and even local Dallas boutiques are always favourites, where I can get well-made, fresh pieces at a great (college-budget friendly) price.
Zara is one of my favourite too! What would you describe you’re go-to everyday outfit as?
If I’m being honest, my go-to everyday outfit is a pair of Nike shorts, a big sorority function tee, tennis shoes, pearl studs and a baseball cap! As a student, I’m always on the go and definitely prioritize comfort during busy school days.
Do you have any beauty tips or secrets you could share with us?!
My secret weapon is Bobby Brown’s Beige Shimmer Brick! Dusting a little on my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and the top of my forehead leaves the prettiest, freshest glow. I especially love it in winter when make-up on my pale skin runs the risk of looking dull.
You always look so on-point in your photos on your blog! How would you describe your own personal style?
My personal style is young, put together, with a classic, southern influence. I’m always mixing classic pieces with the trends I love.
What kind of items do you think are worth splurging on?
Anything timeless that you know you will wear forever. For me, that’s a pair of gorgeous riding boots and a Burberry jacket. Definitely splurges, but I get so much wear out of them!
Where do you find the inspiration for your outfits and blog posts?
I would say my blog inspiration comes mainly from my environment as a college student in the South. You’ll find a lot of southern culture and collegiate influence in my posts, as opposed to what you’ll find on a strictly serious fashion blog.
Do you have any fashion role models that you look up to?
I adore Reese Witherspoon’s style, because it’s always true to her personality, chocked to the brim with southern charm and sweetness. I will always adore Kate Middleton’s gorgeous choices and can’t get enough of Blaire Eadie’s innovative, feminine pairings.
What is your biggest tip for someone who is thinking of starting a fashion blog?
My advice is not to overthink it, and just start one! Instead of spending time analysing and planning and never getting around to starting, I encourage you to just start one and post about what you love! Take the pressure off of yourself and have fun. Just like anything else, you grow and learn and evolve with time!
Do you have any tips for other bloggers who have to balance school and blogging?
I wish I did – it’s a balance I’m still trying to learn! My biggest advice is this: don’t let your blog consume you, and enjoy your time in school. Since I love blogging so much, I sometimes have to remind myself to take a step back and just be a student. I’ve found that the second it stops become fun for you, it’s time to re-prioritize.
What is your next fashion must have?
I’m on the lookout for a bright red cross-body to add a pop of colour to my winter wardrobe!
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to share your thoughts on all things fashion and blogging with us Kate! You are such a style icon in the blogging world, and really make cute, classic style seem like a breeze! It has been such a pleasure getting to know you a little better! Keep up the amazing blog! We are all such huge fans!
