Girls at the XXX Olympics

Hey Smart Girls! It’s Montana MacRae and I sincerely hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I, personally, know a lot about swimming since I competitively compete for my high school team. There were many amazing smart & athletic smart girls at this Olympics in many sports.

Missy Franklin, at the age of 17, was the first woman to attempt to swim seven events in one Olympics. She won four gold medals and one bronze while setting numerous records and having the shortest spread of time between two events with a spread of less than 14 minutes between her 200 Backstroke and 200 Freestyle. That is the shortest spread between two events ever attempted in a swimming competition.

Katie Ledecky, the youngest athlete on Team USA, swam her 800 Freestyle in American Record time. She is 15 and broke an American Record that had stood for 26 years. He was just thousandths of seconds away from breaking the World and Olympic Records. At the age of 15 and having only swam the 800 Freestyle for a year now.

Gabby Douglas was the first black gymnast to win all around gold, first gymnast to win team gold and all around. She had quit the sport of gymnastics for a while until her sister pushed her back into the sport.

Let these girls be shining examples for all of you Smart Girls that you can do anything and everything you put your mind to.

Stay Smart,

Montana MacRae
