Isn’t February such a happy month? Whether you celebrated Galentine’s Day or Valentine’s Day (or both), there was someone to celebrate (including yourself!). You finally started to get into the swing of things in 2016, maybe even kicking some of those resolutions into high gear. You got to embrace some chillier days, using it as an excuse to stay under the covers a little longer, wear your thickest sweaters, and drink hot cocoa by the gallon.
Now that February is coming to a close, I’ve collected the things that made the month of love memorable.
We are told time and time again that meditation is super powerful for our wellbeing, but that doesn’t make it easy. I love the Mindfulness App because it is guided meditations that are as short as three minutes and because it’s right on my phone, I can do it on the subway, before a stressful exam, right when I wake up, whenever it is best for me.
If you follow us on Snapchat (if you don’t, click here to do so!), you’ve probably seen quite a few of snaps a little pink can. I went to a yoga and wellness festival late last year and got to try a Starbucks Refreshers, and since then it’s been my go to re-energizer. I’m like a bear coming out of hibernation when I wake up in the morning and making a habit of rising early isn’t easy, especially for someone who doesn’t like coffee. These have made it much easier. It’s green coffee, but tastes like sparkling lemonade and is low in calories.
There’s nothing that feels like a bigger waste of time than painting your nails and noticing it’s already chipped a few hours later. I tried the Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy nail polish because it promised not to chip easily since it is a similar product to the shellac polish at salons. I’ve had the Royal Flush polish on all month. Bonus: it’s only $5!
I’ve never been more than a chapstick and lip gloss kind of girl, but our Creative Director, Hannah, got me to try this lipstick this month and I ended up getting a matte version in a few different colors because I liked it so much. It is a great way to look a little more put together and it looks particularly great in pictures.
I’m totally obsessed with SoulCycle, a spin studio that is both exercise for the body and soul. Because I go there so often, I tend to wear out my workout clothes pretty quickly. I scored a VSX sports bra during a Victoria’s Secret promotion last month, and I’m loving that no matter how many times I wash it, it doesn’t lose its color or fit, making it worth the investment.
A friend of mine invited Hannah and I to a Free People Movement fitness event in Brooklyn earlier this month. The boxing mixed with barre class was a great workout, but I fell in love with the Free People Movement collection. It’s Free People’s take on athleisure. The fabrics were so soft and the fits were super flattering. I’m particularly a fan of these Soft Leggings (and their price).
My mom always said that mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves and let me tell you, that came in handy when the cold front moved through New York City a few weeks ago. And with warmer weather on the horizon, it’s a good time to snag some on sale, like these Kate Spade ones that are 62% off!
Our Wellness Editor, Breck, always Instagrams smoothie bowls and they look delicious. I ended up getting a NutriBullet for my birthday and started using it more this month when I had early morning meetings. I would mix the smoothie the night before and take it for the road. Trader Joe’s has a great selection of frozen fruit which makes for great smoothie ingredients as well!
This planner may be the greatest thing since, well, ever in my book. It’s an agenda that taps into your soul while still giving you the space to schedule out your crazy busy life. It also helps you set daily, weekly, and monthly intentions so you are set up for success both inside and out. I can’t speak enough about this planner and in comparison to other planners of this detail, it’s definitely on the less expensive side at $29.
10. Foam Roller
I unfortunately pulled a muscle earlier this month. My favorite SoulCycle instructor, Isaac, said the best thing I could do for my muscles, pulled or not, was to foam roll. Now, my muscles feel so much better and it’s a great way to relax at the end of the day.
11. Spoon University
Earlier this month, I was a part of the planning team for Fordham’s Entrepreneurship Conference. We had Sarah Adler, the Co-founder of Spoon University, as our keynote. Spoon is a great website for young people who want to eat well on a budget. I’ve found some great recipes and grocery shopping tips on there, in addition to simply great content about food and everything that surrounds it.
12. Agent Carter
There’s nothing I love more than a good show that screams girl power and Agent Carter definitely falls into that category. It’s a healthy dose of action without being too intense, the plot is extremely captivating, and I love late 40s vibes. And, there’s only 16 episodes of it ever, so it would be an easy show to get into without sucking up too much of your time.
