3 Alternatives To Popping Your Zits


The truth is, I’m a hypocrite. Whenever I see someone picking at their face, I immediately react because I know it’ll make matters worse. But, seconds later I’ll find myself in the mirror poking at anything even remotely discolored or out of place. It’s a terrible habit that I can’t seem to break, no matter how many articles I read about the effects picking causes. Ugh.

After doing some extra research, though, I found a few tips I could definitely get on board with. So, here’s to no longer picking my face and following these tricks whenever I find a pimple or blemish for the rest of 2016 (this was a trial month).

Dry Out The Infected Area

There are several different products you can use to dry out blemishes, but my favorites are the ones I’ve found lying around the house. Toothpaste, for instance, is my go to. Though I look absolutely ridiculous with white blobs on my face, letting it sit on a clean face for a while as it dries it out makes me feel like I have some control over the gross intruder. Don’t have toothpaste? (…) You can also apply baking soda, honey, cucumber, papaya, or even garlic to the infected area!

Exfoliate

Continuously cleaning your pores, especially when you are breaking out, will help remove a lot of the dirt that builds up under your skin and causes pimples. In order to get deep into your pores, the best thing to do is exfoliate. Exfoliative face washes are always a go to. I personally love my L’Oreal Paris Go 360° Deep Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin with a built in face scrublet that leaves your skin feeling baby soft. Another go-to? My Clarisonic facial cleansing brush. TRICK: There is such a thing as over-exfoliating! Stick to using your exfoliating scrub or facial cleansing brush 2-3 times a week in order to avoid extra dryness and irritation.

Take Advil And Other Vitamins

Believe it or not, taking Advil can help reduce the size of the zit on your face, making it less noticeable while you wait for it to go away on its own. Advil (or Ibuprofen) is an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug that will help relieve some of the swelling due to a breakout! It’s also important to take daily supplements to prevent breakouts and not just make them go away. According to Healthline.com, the four best vitamins you should be taking for your skin are Vitamins D, C, E, and K, which are “essential to your health and body functions.”
